Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki falsely claimed that President Joe Biden did not look at his watch during the ceremony at Dover for the 13 soldiers killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Psaki wrote in her new book Say More Lessons from Work, the White House, and the Worldthat ‘the president looked at his watch only after the ceremony had ended. Moments later, he and the First Lady headed toward their car.’

She wrote in her book that claims to the contrary were ‘misinformation.’

That was incorrect, as multiple fact-checkers noted at the time, pointing out that Biden was caught on news cameras looking at his watch during the ceremony at least twice.

Military families voiced their outrage at Biden’s apparent disrespect. Some family members attending the ceremony claimed Biden looked at his watch as many as a dozen times.

Darin Hoover, the father of Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, and Mark Schmitz, the father of Marine Lance Cpl. Jared Schmitz voiced their outrage at Biden during an interview with Fox News.

‘They would release the salute and he looked down at his watch on every last one,’ Hoover said. ‘All 13, he looked down at his watch.’

Psaki initially did not respond to controversy but said Monday to Axios that she would update future printings of her book to correct her mistaken claim of misinformation.

She wrote that the ‘detail in a few lines of the book about the exact number of times he looked at his watch will be removed in future reprints and the ebook.’

When she was still Biden’s press secretary, Psaki was asked about the president looking at his watch during the Dover ceremony by Fox News reporter Jacqui Heinrich in August 2021.

At the time, Psaki dodged answering the question, pointing instead to the president’s loss of his own son.

‘That he knows firsthand what it’s like to lose a child and the fact no one can tell you anything, or say anything, that there’s no words that are going to fill that hole that is left by that.’
