Pakistani military commanders voiced concerns about opposition groups in Afghanistan targeting Islamabad’s economic interests. At a meeting chaired by General Syed Asim Munir, held on April 16 at the Pakistani army’s command center in Rawalpindi, officials discussed potential threats from terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory under Taliban control.
Though specific groups weren’t named, Pakistani military officials pointed to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Baluchistan Liberation Army, and ISIS as terrorist organizations from Islamabad’s perspective. They condemned recent attacks on Chinese engineers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and civilians in Balochistan province, attributing these incidents to militants seeking to disrupt Pakistan’s economic endeavors, notably the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Pakistan has previously expressed concerns about opposition militants operating from Afghanistan. However, the Taliban has denied harboring militants targeting Pakistan’s government, affirming their commitment to prevent Afghan soil from being used against any country.
