Afghanistan dominated debutants Uganda and won by 125 runs in their T20 World Cup opener in Guyana on Monday.

New Delhi: Afghanistan began their T20 World Cup campaign with a rousing 125-run win over debutants Uganda in a Group C clash in Guyana.

Afghan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (76) and Ibrahim Zadran (70) led them to 183/5 with a superb 154-run partnership.

Fazalhaq Farooqi then claimed 5/9 as Uganda were bundled out for only 58 at Georgetown’s Providence Stadium.

Uganda won the toss and chose to field that allowed Gurbaz and fellow opener Ibrahim Zadran registered the second highest opening partnership in the tournament history.

It was a harsh lesson on their introduction to top-flight cricket as after that pounding left-arm pacer ran through their batting order in 16 overs.
