PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Awami National Party (ANP) has called for opening all trade and travel routes with Afghanistan.

Islamabad should revisit its foreign policy besides taking steps to improve relations with neighbours, ANP leader Mian Iftikhar Hussain demanded.

In a statement, the ex-information minister said the Pakhtun land was rich in natural resources, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa producing natural gas and hydel power.

The Pakhtuns should be given control over their resources, calling for provincial autonomy, Mian Iftikhar added.

He underlined the need for taking concrete measures to restore peace and stability in Pakhtun-inhabited areas.

The previous government of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, he recalled, had set free over 100 terrorists and facilitated the resettlement of over 40,000 militants along with their families in the province.

The ANP stalwart tied the resurgence of terrorism to the return of the militants, saying the scourge was affecting all parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
