Chefs representing professional kitchens across Omaha — from gourmet restaurants to homeless shelters — will participate in this year’s Art & Soup fundraiser for the Visiting Nurse Association.

The 27th annual event will take place March 10 at the Omaha Design Center, 1502 Cuming St.

People who attend can view a variety of works from local artists and bid on auction items in addition to sampling soups. Proceeds will go to the VNA’s public health services at domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters and maternity homes in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area.

“We’re thankful to the community, our participating chefs and artists and our partners for supporting these crucial services,” said Carole Patrick, VNA president and CEO, in a press release.

Participating restaurants and other facilities include Avoli Osteria, Pitch, Fig, Le Voltaire, Heirloom Fine Foods, Talus Spirits & Sustenance, Ono Pinay Kitchen, Open Door Mission, Stephen Center and more.

New food truck plans pop-ups

Crunch Factor, a new food truck from the owner of the Dire Lion, is about to launch a series of pop-ups.

Isaiah Renner says he has been working on some “over-the-top” menus for his new venture and plans to be open mainly at Trucks & Taps, 5402 S. 108th St. Each menu will be available for only two to three days.

“So if you see a menu you like, make sure to get it on your calendar,” he said on Facebook.

He said he’s also interested in creating custom menus for catered events. You can contact him at [email protected]

He has three pop-ups scheduled so far, all at Trucks & Taps:

Shrimp and sliders, March 8 and 9

Dire Lion Lent Fish Fry, March 22

Concept to be announced, March 29 and 30

Winery to have Irish dinner

Irish St. Patrick’s Day celebrations traditionally involve beer or whiskey. Capitol View Winery & Vineyards is offering a twist on that this year.

Reservations are now available for their Irish Wine Dinner that’s set for March 14. The event will pair pours from the winery and a menu featuring Rueben egg rolls, Irish stew with colcannon, honey-glazed carrots and parsnips, soda bread and brown bead and apple cake.

Hake Catering will create the dinner and bobalone, aka Bob Marshall, will provide music.

Tickets are $65 per person. To reserve seats, call 402-328-3494 or email [email protected]

The winery is at 2361 Wittstruck Road in Roca, Nebraska. Doors open for the dinner at 6:30 p.m. and serving starts at 7.
