During the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan Business Forum in Tashkent on April 25, 2024, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan revealed that the mutual trade volume between the two countries had reached $866.9 mn by the conclusion of 2023.

Organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the forum aimed to facilitate collaboration between business entities from both nations and showcase the products of local exporters on the world stage.

Attended by Deputy Chairmen from both the Uzbekistan and Afghanistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, along with representatives from relevant ministries, industry associations, and business circles, the event underscored the pivotal role of bilateral cooperation in fostering investment and trade-economic ties.

Central to the discussions were initiatives to strengthen ties between the business communities of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. Participants explored opportunities for further investment and trade cooperation, leveraging the proximity and historical ties between the two nations.

During the forum, participants were briefed on the business-friendly environment in Uzbekistan, highlighting the opportunities available for entrepreneurs, including incentives in free economic zones and tax and customs benefits. Such insights aimed to encourage greater participation from Afghan businesses in the Uzbek market.

The forum also served as a platform to celebrate the growing economic partnership between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. Over recent years, bilateral relations have flourished across various sectors, reflecting the shared commitment to fostering neighborliness and friendship.

Uzbekistan emerged as one of Afghanistan’s top ten trade partners, with exports surpassing $856.6 mn, underscoring the potential for further collaboration.

Preceding the forum, an exhibition showcasing Uzbekistan’s diverse range of goods took place on April 24. Featuring over 120 producers spanning electrical engineering, textiles, agriculture, food processing, and craftsmanship, the exhibition aimed to demonstrate Uzbekistan’s competitiveness in the Afghan market.

With a population of 34.9 mn people in Afghanistan, the exhibition highlighted Uzbekistan’s competitive advantage in offering affordable goods compared to imports from other countries. The event provided a platform for Uzbek entrepreneurs to explore opportunities and forge partnerships to penetrate the Afghan market.

The forum also facilitated business-to-business (B2B) meetings, resulting in numerous mutually beneficial contracts and agreements.
